- Canyon Pain Center sends text messages about your appointments and care, and — separately, and only if you ask for it — occasional practice news.
- You only receive texts if you opt in. Consent to receive text messages is never a condition of treatment or of any purchase.
- Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
- Reply STOP to any message to cancel. Reply HELP for help, or call us at (602) 603-2282.
- We do not sell or share your mobile number or your text-messaging consent with anyone for their own marketing.
Who sends the messages
Text messages come from Canyon Pain Center, a pain management practice at 702 E Bell Rd, Suite 112, Phoenix, AZ 85022. Messages are sent by our staff and by our patient management system on our behalf, which is contractually required to safeguard your health information. Our text messages — appointment and care messages and practice news alike — come from our text numbers, 888-273-0378 and 866-724-6205 (1-866-PAIN-205), and every one of them identifies Canyon Pain Center by name, so a text from a number you do not recognize is still from us. You can text us on 888-273-0378. Calls still go to (602) 603-2282, which does not receive text messages.
What we send
There are two kinds of text messages, and you consent to them separately. Agreeing to one does not sign you up for the other.
Appointment and care messages. The practical business of being our patient:
- Replies to a new patient request or intake form you submitted
- Appointment confirmations, reminders, rescheduling, and cancellations
- Requests for paperwork, records, referrals, or insurance information
- Instructions before or after a procedure, and follow-up on your care
- Billing and account questions, and answers to questions you text us
Practice news. Occasional messages about new services, providers, office hours or location changes, and health information we think our patients will find useful. This category is optional, is not needed for your care, and you can decline it while still receiving appointment and care messages.
How you opt in
You give consent by checking the text-message box on our new patient request form or intake form, by signing our printed consent form in our office, by telling a staff member on the phone, or by texting us first. The boxes on our forms are never pre-checked, and each category of message has its own box.
Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of treatment, of scheduling, or of any purchase. If you would rather not be texted, leave the boxes unchecked and tell us to use the phone or email instead — we will, and it changes nothing about the care you receive.
Only opt in a mobile number that belongs to you or that you are authorized to use. If a number you gave us stops being yours, tell us so we can stop texting it.
You must be at least 18 years old to opt a mobile number in to these messages. If the patient is under 18, a parent or legal guardian gives consent and should opt in their own mobile number.
If you text us first. You are welcome to text (888) 273-0378 with a scheduling, records or billing question without opting in to anything. We will reply about what you asked, and that exchange on its own does not sign you up for appointment reminders or practice news — those still take the consent described above. Please keep clinical detail out of your first message; our conversations are held on a HIPAA-compliant platform, but standard text messages are not encrypted in transit, so we keep medical information to a minimum and will move anything clinical to a phone call or your chart.
How to stop the messages
Reply STOP to any message from us at any time. We will send one confirmation that you have been unsubscribed, and then stop. STOP ends every text from the number you reply to — practice news and appointment reminders alike. If you have received texts from both of our text numbers, reply STOP to each, or call or email us and we will stop texts from both. If you want to keep your appointment and care messages and stop only the practice news, call or email us instead of replying STOP and we will switch off just the news. You can also call the office at (602) 603-2282, email info@canyonpaincenter.com, or tell any staff member.
Opting out of texts does not remove you as a patient and does not stop us from reaching you by phone or mail about your care. Text messages and marketing emails are separate programs with separate consent: replying STOP ends the text messages only. Marketing emails are stopped by the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every one of them, or by asking us.
To start again after opting out, reply START or ask us to turn messages back on.
How to get help
Reply HELP to any message and we will reply with who we are and how to reach us. For anything more involved, call (602) 603-2282 during office hours or email info@canyonpaincenter.com.
Frequency and cost
Message frequency varies. Appointment and care messages depend on what is happening with your care — a week with a procedure in it may bring several, and a quiet stretch may bring none. Practice news is sent no more than a few times a month.
Message and data rates may apply. We do not charge you for text messages, but your mobile carrier may, depending on your plan. Check with your carrier if you are unsure what a message costs you.
Carriers and delivery
Our messaging works with major U.S. carriers, including AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, US Cellular, Boost, Cricket, MetroPCS, Google Voice, and Virgin Mobile, and with many smaller ones. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Text messages are not guaranteed to arrive, are not encrypted as they travel over carrier networks, and are not monitored around the clock.
Do not use text messages for urgent clinical concerns. Nobody is watching the inbox around the clock. Call the office at (602) 603-2282, or call 911 in an emergency.
Your privacy
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text-messaging originator opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party, and are excluded from every category of information sharing described in our Privacy Policy. We use your mobile number to run this messaging program and to care for you, and for nothing else.
Canyon Pain Center is a covered entity under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). We hold text conversations on a HIPAA-compliant messaging platform, under a business associate agreement that contractually requires the platform to safeguard your information, and text messages that concern your care are protected health information, handled under our Notice of Privacy Practices. Even so, we keep medical information in text messages to a minimum, and we ask you to do the same, because standard SMS is not encrypted as it travels between your phone and our platform over mobile carrier networks. If you would prefer we not discuss your care by text at all, say so and we will use the phone.
